Reflection is part of growth. Don't dwell too much on the past, learn to love what is right out in front.
Thinking back of a younger me, I remember a scared naive child, and at the center of his universe was limitless. My life experience’s then were limited, overly impressionable, scatter-brain, a young grasshopper.
Parents were loving, and I was nurtured by aunts, uncles, grandma and cousins. Holidays were a joyful reunion with everyone responsible for me. Throughout the years I didn't slow down, summers were for running outside all day, with birthday parties and holiday’s in the background. I would dodge and weave in between couples dancing, playing childhood games as salsa music played in the backyard.
Growing up in my Hispanic upbringing, the house was filled with entertainment every weekend. As I entered any Hispanic home, I was greeted by family members, a hug and a kisses.
Movements takeover throughout the evening, hips shaking as salsa music plays… Music will always be essential to family gatherings.
As I embark fatherhood, I think about my upbringing. Infuse the good, leave out the bad, and hope for the best. I am reminded of my highs and lows, and with a reminder that all it takes is continue to walk/run, one foot in front of the other.
